Is Garnier Sustainable

Want flawless skin and healthy tresses? Garnier got you covered with its huge range of products. It started with hair care products and extended towards skincare.

In this article, let’s discover more about Garnier.

Does Garnier test on animals?

Garnier does not test on animals. It has pulled its products from the Chinese markets in March 2021. It doesn’t involve animal testing.

Yes, Garnier became cruelty-free. Garnier is Leaping Bunny certified by Cruelty Free International. Leaping Bunny certifies a brand only after investigating its entire supply chain including all raw materials and ingredients.

Garnier Animal Testing Policy

Let’s see what the official website says about testing,

All Garnier products, globally, are now officially cruelty free – the brand has been given the stamp of approval by the Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny programme, the leading organization working to end animal testing and the cruelty free gold standard.

According to its statement, Garnier is certified cruelty-free by the Cruelty Free International organization. Its products now carry the Leaping Bunny logo.

However, it must be pointed out that the parent company is still involved in animal testing when mandatory. The parent company of Garnier is one of the leading beauty and makeup brands that still test on animals.

Is Garnier Sustainable

Is Garnier certified by PETA?

Garnier is not approved by PETA. I didn’t find Garnier in its databse of cruelty-free companies.

Is Garnier certified by Leaping Bunny?

Yes, Garnier is certified by Leaping Bunny since March, 2021.

Is Garnier made in China?

As per my knowledge, Garnier does not manufacture its products in China.

Is Garnier sold in China?

Garnier does not sell any of its product in the physical or online market in the Chinese province.

Is Garnier vegan?

Garnier is not completely vegan. But it offers multiple vegan products, making it vegan-friendly. Garnier Green Labs, a variety of Whole Blends range, Fructis skincare and hair care products are vegan.

  • Example of vegan product – Green Labs serum.
  • Example of non-vegan Garnier product – Whole Blends Honey Treasures. (This range contains honey, a non-vegan ingredient.)

Here is what the brand says on being vegan-friendly.

When we talk about vegan formulas, we mean they do not contain animal derived ingredients or by products, such as honey, milk, beeswax, eggs etc. To be able to claim this, we have followed a rigorous process that also includes suppliers commitment upstream in the manufacturing process.

You can easily spot vegan products as they are labeled.

As part of this commitment, we are also labeling our products ‘Vegan’ where the formula does not contain honey or beeswax, etc.

PS: Note that vegan products are free of animal ingredients and its byproducts. Here is what cruelty-free vs vegan mean, expalined in simple words.

Is Garnier Cruelty-free

Is Garnier clean?

Garnier is not a clean brand. Here is why. It contains many toxic ingredients that are flagged in EU.

Garnier products contain parabens, silicones, sulfate, artificial fragrance and more questionable ingredients. Although the brand offers some paraben-free products, it can’t be considered as a clean brand.

Is Garnier fragrance-free?

Garnier is not fragrance free. Garnier products have a chemical fragrance. You’ll find artificial fragrance in most of the Garnier products. If it bothers you, feel free to skip this brand.

Is Garnier paraben-free?

Garnier is not paraben-free. But it has launched a paraben-free range of products to attract more customers.

Some of the products that are paraben-free are Whole Blends Coconut Water & Aloe Vera, Whole Blends Ginger Recovery, Oat Delicacy, Maple Remedy, Green Labs, etc.

Is Garnier Green?

Garnier is not Green. It has taken commendable steps towards a Green future but more of that is in “talking”. The company projects to do better in future. However, currently that’s not the scenario.

Announcing a “Green” range of products and riding the Green wave appears more of greenwashing to attract consumers.

Is Garnier sustainable?

Garnier is not sustainable. It ranks its products on a ‘Overall Environmental Impact’ scale of A to E. A being the most sustainable while E is the least.

  • Example of A rating – Garnier Skinactive Rose Micellar Water
  • An example of E rating – Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Waterproof

Is Garnier environment-friendly?

Garnier uses recycled packaging for some of its products and plan to expand in upcoming years. So not entirely environment-friendly, but taking conscious steps towards it.

Is Garnier eco-friendly?

It is not eco-friendly. However, the brand mentions working on reducing water consumption and carbon footprint by 2030.

Do I recommend Garnier products?

Garnier gets a good score for supporting Animal Rights and being animal-friendly in a true sense. Garnier is cruelty-free and offers vegan-friendly products.

I like Garnier as a drugstore brand. It works nicely for me. But if you are more into clean and sustainable beauty then you should look for better alternatives.

Conclusion

Garnier stopped selling in China and secured the cruelty-free Leaping Bunny logo by the prestigious organization, Cruelty Free International.

I want to point out that Garnier went cruelty-free but its parent company is still not cruelty-free.
