Colourpop – Past & Present
2014: Colourpop Cosmetics, commonly known as ColourPop, is a purely American brand founded in 2014. The makers of this brand are Laura and John Nelson, two beauty enthusiasts from a family of cosmetic manufacturers. ColourPop started as just another online-only makeup brand under parent brand, Seed Beauty. Yes, this is the same Seed Beauty that owns Kylie Cosmetics.
ColourPop’s founder member Laura and John’s father owns Spatz Laboratories. Many well known makeup brands such as Kylie Cosmetics and ColourPop hire Spatz for base level manufacturing and packaging of their products.
In its small lifespan of 6 years, ColourPop has decocted the secrets of every makeup lover. They focus on cost-effective makeup with premium quality. ColourPop makes the best use of web-world endorsements to promote their products.
Youtubers like Zoella, Becky G, Safiya Nygaard, James Charles and Kathleen Lights never stop singing praises of this brand. Their collaborations with Hello Kitty and James Charles need special mention. ColourPop’s products even got featured by famous online platform Refinery29. Currently this brand is available at its own stores and website, Amazon, Sephora and ULTA.
What the brands says about their Cruelty Free Outlook?
One can see ColourPop’s official testing policy on the bottom of their website.
We are 100% fur baby friendly, bunny approved, and only test our products on humans – the ones in our HQ to be exact!
ColourPop is very passionate about animals and does not condone animal testing in any way. We are extremely proud to be cruelty free! No outside company tests on animals for us and none of our suppliers test on animals.”
The statement says, they don’t run cruelty based tests on animals. Instead, they use human volunteers to test their products. They even mentioned the name of their California headquarters as the place for these safety tests. Colourpop does not hire any third party laboratories to test their products for them. ColourPop makes sure to buy ingredients from cruelty-free suppliers only.
It is quite important to note that I of all people would love to be at their HQ to personally test their awesome products. So if you’re a brand person reading this, feel free to hire me. Shameless plug ends here.
Cruelty Free Timeline
Since its launch in 2014, ColourPop keeps itself ‘fur baby friendly’. We don’t have the exact time when ColourPop gained its PETA certification. However, ColourPop is an active follower of PETA’s Beauty without Bunnies program. PETA itself endorses some of ColourPop’s products in its website as substitutes of some bestselling non-cruelty free products.
